Members Damien133 Posted April 8, 2014 Members Report Posted April 8, 2014 Hi there,As a bit of a newbie to leather sewing machines i'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at the massive range of walking foot machines out there and the potential uses for each.I was just wondering if anyone might be able to tell me if there are any machines that are particularly good for sewing both harnesses/belting leathers as well as slightly thinner boot leathers? I'd say the maximum thickness i'd be dealing with is around 1.5 cm at the most extreme, and probably no less than about 5mm most of the time.If anyone could tell me of any specific models that might be good for this i'd be very grateful. Moderator Wizcrafts Posted April 8, 2014 Moderator Report Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) Best I can figure, by comparing rulers, is that your range of sewing, in numbers I understand, are from 3/16 to 5/8 inches. This is fully within the normal operating range of the 441 type machines. Examples include those from Cowboy (CB 3500 and 4500), Cobra (Class 3 and Class 4), and Techsew (4100 and 5100). An Adler 205-370 will also handle this range of leathers. All of the above are cylinder arm machines with triple feed, large cylindrical bobbins, massive cases, moving parts and bearings and the ability to sew with thread sizes 92 through 415 (USA designations). If those sizes aren't common in your country (you gave us measurements in metric), consult this thread and needle chart to find equivalents. Edited April 8, 2014 by Wizcrafts Quote

Members Damien133 Posted April 9, 2014 Author Members Report Posted April 9, 2014 I'm in Melbourne, Australia, with the majority of machines coming up for sale generally being from Singer, Juki, Typical, Camsew, Mitsubishi and Toyotas...unfortunately Cowboys, Cobras, and Adlers are all rather rare here.
