Yet Another Speed Reducer Question

Recommended Posts

I am looking into getting a speed reducer for my Chandler/Adler 67 (and other singers) but have been told that I will need to modify the table to make the belt opening longer once it is installed. I don't really want to fuss with that so came across this sold by allcraft, and was wondering if anyone else have used this type? Looks like it goes where the existing bolts are and then the motor mounts below. I like simple! Anyone? The cost is definitely higher for the convenience..

You can cut a slot in a lot less time that it will take to mount that. Even if you had to pay somebody to cut the slot, in my mind you will be money ahead.

Or you can mount it to the table frame. I once did this on a machine I have sold. Just to give you an idea:

I looked at this one. The big advantage I saw was, you were still able to tilt the machine back for cleaning and lube. I am not sure if thats possible on reducers that are moved forward and require the belt slot cut. it also uses 4 to 1 reduction vs 3 to 1 which the common reducer uses IIRC.

I have a Consew 227r-2, added a servo motor but it was still too fast for me. I then added a shaft with pulleys parallel to the motor to reduce speed. Instead of making the belt slot bigger I drilled new holes for the servo motor about 1 1/2 inches back from the factory holes. It works great. I don't know how to add pictures or I would. I also made a reverse pedal.
