Members confusedleatherman Posted April 22, 2014 Members Report Posted April 22, 2014 I'm new to the sewing world... If I get a rolling foot kit for a Juki ddl-5550, do I have to get it re-timed? I've read that these machine are NOT leather sewing machine and is not suitable for upholstery (in which I intend to use this machine for) due to feeding issues with upholstery materials, but I've already went to the point of "NO RETURNS"... So I would just have to make the best of this machine... I just want to reupholster my car seats and add a few diamond stitch pattern to a few trims. Has anyone accidently bought this machine and used this machine for upholstery because they didn't have any other choice and had satisfatory results with it? I was reading a thread with another guy who had a similar issue as mine, but the thread went dead. I should have done my research carefully before I went out and bought this machine. I always thought a sewing machine is just a sewing machine and can sew anthing you want in any pattern you want as long as you're great at it...and the word "industrial" makes a sewing machine the god father of sewing machines. Reading this forum has lifted my ignorance and enlightened me to a whole new perspective on sewing machine. Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted April 22, 2014 Moderator Report Posted April 22, 2014 No, you won't have to retime the machine after converting it to a roller foot. That is, unless you inadvertently knock the needle bar out of time by sewing leather and heavy upholstery material on it, using large needles and thread.
