I use neutral for anything with color other than black and use black on the black. After I apply the shoe polish I buff with a brush then polish it with a soft cloth, I use old flannel sheet rags. I've found that no matter what finish I use the finish will come off over time while the the owner rides the bike. i have also used mink oil on both sides of the leather to help protect from rain then applied shoe polish on the outside finished piece.
