Members VonTannin Posted May 9, 2014 Members Report Posted May 9, 2014 I can't seem to find any information on here about developing a pattern for decorative lining cuts. Like for the lining of a belt or purse handle. I understand it's mainly free hand, but I thought it would be nice to compile some tips and tricks! Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted May 9, 2014 Contributing Member Report Posted May 9, 2014 The sky's the limit on finger cuts, but often you see people making cuts that look like scrolls used in engraving work. Search for Bob Park's (Hidepounder here on the forum) work. He is very good at these sorts of cuts. I tried posting a link here to some of his work but for some reason it won't let me do it. Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted May 9, 2014 Contributing Member Report Posted May 9, 2014 Try: http://www.leatherwranglers.com/images/IMG_2009-1.jpg Had to type it in manually. You can see how his scrolls are like the vinework you would see around the flowers in a floral carving. Quote

Very similar to the "s" shapes for belt carvings. There was another gentleman, the name escapes me, that does absolutely gorgeous finger cut work on linings. If I remember I throw his name on here, maybe a link or two. Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted May 9, 2014 Contributing Member Report Posted May 9, 2014 Could the name you were thinking of be Rick Bean? He's a saddle maker that uses finger carvings a lot on his saddles. I know I have some pictures saved away on my computer but I can't find them right now. Try searching on his name. Quote

Members WinterBear Posted May 9, 2014 Members Report Posted May 9, 2014 http://www.leatherwranglers.com/contest.html Maybe also Bob Klenda? And I've seen Johan do some nice things too. http://leatherbyjohan.blogspot.com/2011/05/swivel-knife-cuts.html Quote
