Members Houlihan Saddlery Posted June 11, 2014 Members Report Posted June 11, 2014 I was wondering what gauge of metal do you all prefer for seat tins. Also, what is your opinion on Bill Bean's seat tin that Sheridan Leather sells. Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted June 11, 2014 Moderator Report Posted June 11, 2014 When I was making saddles, I really liked Bill Bean's seat tins a lot. Saved time and heavier gauge than most of the others. Quote
Members oltoot Posted June 11, 2014 Members Report Posted June 11, 2014 22 ga and I cut and shape my own. Every so often i go to a local sheet metal shop and get a 4X8 sheet cut up into 'blanks' . They aren't smooth and pretty but get covered up anyway. Quote
Members Ruark Posted June 15, 2014 Members Report Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) I eventually used 16 gauge. Heavier than most, but worth it. Gave a really solid, secure feel to the seat. I had a sheet metal shop cut out 20-30 at a time and pre-drill the nail holes. Edited June 15, 2014 by Ruark Quote
