wilstreak Report post Posted August 3, 2014 Hi guys, I'm a new member and totally new around leathercraft I'm just starting and hence, i got confused easily with whole lot of new information (for me). For now I'm just asking about skiving, as i cant afford to purchase skiving machine, i have to do it by hand. My first try using pen style cutter didnt end well. Recently i have found Super Skiver Tool that seems really easy to use. The video is like this one :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jHHxT3lqLU My question are, can it be used in chrome tan leather with thickness of 1.2mm-1.4mm. The leather shown in the video seems to be vegetable tan that is very thick and much more rigid. If it is not possible, do you guys think what tools work better for skiving chrome tan leather? Thank you very much
electrathon Report post Posted August 3, 2014 Yes, you can use that tool. Also, a very sharp round knife on its edge works well/better. A number of other knifes will work too. The key to it is it must be very, very sharp. If it will not dry shave the hairs on your arm, it needs to be sharper. Do not cut yourself with this test, it will hurt and you will bleed if you do.
