Zandeosaddles Report post Posted August 11, 2014 Hi guys. I have a new Cb4500 machine here in South Africa. I am struggling foe days now with reverse stitching. It makes extremely loose stithes at bottom only. I have setup feed timing as per manual meticulously. I have adjusted needle bar hight, orientaion, needle size, thread size, take up lever spring stroke and tension as well as threading and all tension combinaions. I have set feet height and hook timing. Forward and reverse stith holes are exactly equal in size. I had problem of interference between needle bar and harness foot on the largest possible stitch length in forward and reverse, but worse in reverse. I ended up filing the offending edges off carefully until there was no interference. I have also adjusted the presser foot lift to the specified height. My thread is not hooking up anywhere and I am holding the thread when starting the sew. Tere must be somehing I am missing. I am willing to phone someone over skype who is willing to assist. My dealer here is more than willing to help, but they are consulting other people, since they are also not familiar woth the cause of the problem. Everything is tight and checked. Regardless of what settings I try, the same problem persists, which leads me to believe there is somehing I am overlooking. Please, please help me. My work is piling up as this is taking up all my time. THANK YOU ALL FOR A VERY INFORMATIVE SITE! Red Cent Report post Posted August 11, 2014 Are you saying the bobbin thread is laying in a straight line and not being pulled into the needle hole?
Zandeosaddles Report post Posted August 11, 2014 Hi. Thank you for the reply! Yes bobbin thread is straight and top thread makes loops on bottom in reverse only. Tension settings does not affect it much. Take up spring makes some difference but have tried various settings with no lasting improvement. Regards Theus Hi. Thank you for the reply! Palermo Report post Posted August 14, 2014 What thread size are you using?
silverwingit Report post Posted August 14, 2014 At the risk of insulting you, it could be something as simple as the way you've threaded the machine. There are several ways to thread 441 clones and each vendor has their own way of doing it. If the thread is threaded in a way the machine doesn't like in reverse, especially since you have such a measured and scholarly way of learning your machine, checking all other variables to your satisfaction, I would suggest that you look at some of the other ways to thread it. Another thought and a question. It may be a blessing in disguise that you have had this problem. It has forced you to go through your machine in fine detail, yielding a deep knowledge of how it works. This is especially handy given your relative isolation. You wouldn't have gained this knowledge if you had smooth sailing from the start. My question -- where the heck is Bob Kovar of Toledo Industrial Sewing machines with this? He, like the other sewing machine vendors that support and advertise on this site, are known for their post-sales service. Is it the time zone difference? Is there an Australian rep middleman dropping the ball? I'd be on their case big time until I get satisfaction! Good luck, Michelle
Zandeosaddles Report post Posted August 15, 2014 Hi all. Thank you so much. I wrote a massive detailed reply, which is now lost. in short. Mechanic came out at my cost. Spent almost 2 days setting up machine Agents mean well, but dont seem to know the machine. Hey recommended twisted thread. of which I bought 10 rolls of different weight. Mechanic says the needles are poor quality and we eventuallyut in bonded hread Poly cotton blend M20, that bacstitched noproblem. The mechanic used to work on the adler 205. Agents would do well to contract an independent professional technician to do thesetup for them and should not pretend to know a machine, when they dont. In the States people stake their reputation on setup and backup. They wanted me to send the head back on my expense 1000 mies one way. It was with them and there were many issues, although is did sew but with sound effects etc. Thread lubrication was added at mechanics advice and it works a charm. I prefer threading the coblea way, althouh I realise tension is tension whichever way you achieve it. My check spring wastoo loose and bobbin tension too tight. There was play on some of the shafts, driver play. feed timing, feet alignment. I was using M8 thick thread left twist polyester, but have since decided to move to M12 thinner hread polyester left twist. If I buy again, I will buy bonded polyester and uality needles. lie 180 needles with M12 thread. I am glad I got ot sorted, now the work os happening again. Mahine runs smooth and noiseless. I see a p1 to p9 setting on servo motor, Got a fright when machine wanted to run in reverse, probably programs for cycle of motor. got ot on P 8 which seems to work. Thanks again!
