Members leathervan Posted August 21, 2014 Members Report Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) The reason I want cheap leather cow hides is because I am making my second briefcase and much if it is experimenting with different techniques etc so I expect mistakes and learning things that I probably won't use again. So I don't want to use leather that is $8 or $9 a square ft. or anything around that. But I do want real leather, just not top quality leather. When I am ready for the real thing I will use more expensive leather. And I don't plan on selling this second briefcase. Any ideas where I can get cheap leather? Members TomG Posted August 21, 2014 Members Report Posted August 21, 2014 Not sure where you are, but Tandy have some economy sides for around $99. I bought a side of 8-9 oz and am surprised at how nice both sides are.... Of course, I hand picked it <g>... But the other 4 sides in the roll I examined looked decent for the price as well. Quote
Members Wishful Posted August 21, 2014 Members Report Posted August 21, 2014 Tandy also has sides for $59 http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/9157-87.aspx I just got a 2/3 oz for that price. Quote
Members Toolingaround Posted August 22, 2014 Members Report Posted August 22, 2014 Hi There I can vouch for the economy sides at Tandy too. I just bought a 4/5 oz one and was surprised how nice it is. It is not top end but much nicer than I was expecting. Not sure when their sale ends so I would go sooner than latter. Cheers, Toolingaround Quote
