ewepootoo Report post Posted October 10, 2014 Just starting out, very late starter as l am just about to retire. With a lifelong love of horses l have decided that l would like to try my hand at making some tack as l like the smell and feel of quality leather which seems to be getting replaced by plastic these days. lt may be more than a little ambitious but my first project is to make a 1912 UP Swivel tree army saddle, l used an original for many years in the 80's and never had a horse with a sore back. They are not very complex from a leatherwork aspect but there is the metal work and the woodwork side to consider. The seat is made from one piece of leather l believe which from memory is around 3/16" thick and somehow formed to shape, any advice on where l could find suitable leather and how to form it would be greatly appreciated. l am in Australia but buying things from all over the world on ebay seems to be the best.
