Can U Tool Old Leatrher Coats?

Newbe here of course. I bought an old leather coat and cut it apart and I can not seem to carve or tool this leather. Must I buy Veg tanned loather ONLY and expect to tool. Help please

Any help would be appreciated

If you are trying to stamp or tool you need to buy a tooling leather that will accept an impression. Jackets are made of garment leather and are tanned specifically clothing furniture etc. they are not meant to hold an impression or carving

The short answer is, no.

You do need veg tan if you want to stamp or carve. Chrome tan, which is what most garment leather is, does not accept impressions at all.
