Looking for comments and reviews on a Consew 227 Sewing Machine. I am also on the hunt for a Singer 45K or similar machine for leather holster work...Thanks John

Does anyone have experience with the Consew 227...I plan to make holsters and other gun/hunting related items...I need to know what this machine can do...Thanks Rooster

Sorry, no experience with the Consew. I use an Artisan Toro 3000 for stitching holsters, sheaths, and some tack repair. I did do some checking on the web. 11/32" is the maximum clearence under the foot. In my opinion, the 227 may not be your best choice for stitching vegatable tanned holster leather. My Toro 3000 will stitch a full 3/4" under the foot.

Maybe our ever helpful moderator Art, will offer his well educated opinion and advise.

It is a good medium duty cylinder arm machine, there is no reverse unless you get an R model. It will sew 2 layers of 9 oz veg tan with up to about 207 thread.

Thanks for the input, information was valuable...I bit the "bullet" and bought an Americal Straight Needle, I had one many years ago and "loved" it...my "flat" machine is a Neel Saddlery 6-9 which is ok for what I want it to do...Thanks again...this is an outstanding forum! Rooster sends
