moppusan Report post Posted January 10, 2015 I recently purchased some deerskin leather cord to make an adjustable hair tie (I have dreads and regular hair ties are the devil). Unfortunately I realized too late that it's not slideable enough for my liking (or my hair - it likes to grab things). So, I have some unused deerskin cord. My girlfriend has been taking forever to finish friendship bracelets so I was wondering if I could make bracelets out of the deerskin that could be worn like friendship bracelets - 24/7. Getting wet, getting soaped, etc. Any help is appreciated.
Jim Report post Posted January 10, 2015 You did not make a bad purchase. Deer skin is pretty tough and will hold up. Being Chrome Tanned, it doesn't dry out and crack from getting wet. Sweat can be a factor if used as a lace for necklaces over a long period of time. But as for friendship bracelets it will do well. Jim
moppusan Report post Posted January 10, 2015 Awesome - thank you for replying. I knew I could do something with it but having more options is always a good thing.
Tramps Leatherworking Report post Posted January 10, 2015 I wear deerskin gloves exclusively for riding and they are extremely durable and can withstand repeated exposure to moisture (rain storms). They can even be hand washed...
