Stamping Real Natural Patterns

Does anyone in the forum knows how to achieve the amazing effect of the journals of the links below?

I cannot figure out how can be done!. Obviously they are embossed with the natural patterns but i cannot understand how to achieve the colour effect, its incredible!

At a guess, I'd say a first coat of dye is put down and the leaves are placed on them while still wet (possibly laying down a coat of dye on the leaves so the creases hold more dye, then pressing them onto the leather) then spraying dye on top of the leaves so the uncovered areas end up darker. I could by wildly mistaken though.

Looks like airbrushing to me.

There are a number of ways this could be done, but I think that one is a [relatively cheap] printed leather.

I think JLS is right. It doesn't really look like they're embossed. The finish looks too smooth. It's pretty, though.

Thank you for all the answers! I dont know previously such thing as "printed leather."! On the other hand if this works are done by hand as you suggest, Grey drakkon, for me is still a mistery how she does this negative effect on the up parts (nerves of the leaves for example), because if you dye the leaf and press onto the leather, the colored areas are obviously those that are up. The airbrushing option makes sense inf works like the weat notebook but none in the others... So i will make some test with all the things the people suggest.

If you take a very close look at this rose https://www.flickr.com/photos/gildbookbinders/4976392214/in/photostream/ you can actually see the spray pattern, cause the person screwed on 3 different spots

Looking at this one https://www.flickr.com/photos/23916720@N08/2268644205 where the artist states that is acrylic and airbrush I would think that the airbrush isn't too far off.

I f you go to the last link... the ferns. there are several other pictures at the bottom. They clearly show mistakes where the leaves got folded over themselves. Looks to me like its airbrushing through the leaves. But I don't have any idea how that is possible.

I'd guess they airbrush through skeleton leaves like these

Huh. If you had a lot of patience and a steady hand, you could cut around the veins with a sharp blade, lay the skeleton down on the leather and then spray over it. Wouldn't be too bad with maple leaves since their armature is fairly strong.

It's done with a machine. On the entire hide. Very much like silk screening t-shirts.

When I say 'printed', I did not say embossed. That leather is printed, much like a newspaper is "printed". Apparently leather "suppliers" (standard retail people) have convinced LW folks that "printed" means "3-D) ...

True that COULD be done with an airbrush (or a paint brush, for that matter). Still, takes a good while to get much effect, but handy if you just need ONE (not a whole side of it).

That's a simple rifle sling, done with two shades of brown and an airbrush. Glad you like it, but honestly -- not that difficult
