DonHo Report post Posted May 28, 2015 Last year I was giving the chance to make my first knife. Since then I wanted to make a sheath for it. I have just started this hobby doing kits and things. This is the first project that I did start to finish. I struggle with the stamping, thank you for dye. The creating of the stich line and holes were a challenge. I find alot that I need to learn to do better, but I like it. Going to get another knife so I can do this again.. Don "Ho"
LoneWolf1973 Report post Posted May 28, 2015 Don't look bad for your first. Nice looking knife also. Now, there are others here that can give allot of advice (they have have helped me allot and I have been doing this off and on for 30 years) so I am sure people will tell you things to do. It would be to your advantage to listen. My piece of advice is to make sure your stamping is straight and even. There are quite a few ways to hide most mistakes but if your stamping is way off then it is very noticeable. And welcome to the leather addiction...lol. DonHo Report post Posted May 28, 2015 Thanks, I am open to all suggestions. It was reading and looking on this site that allowed me to jump and try. The stamping and carving are frustrating to me right now. I know what I want it to look like, but so far, seldom does it finish that way. I think I also need to plan better and have patience. LoneWolf1973 Report post Posted May 28, 2015 Patience is a big factor. That is an issue for me...lol. The main things I find is to make sure you are calm and comfortable. I start getting agitated I pull out my grandpa's pipe and smoke a bowl (regular tobacco lol) because he was the biggest influence for me to pick leather up 30 yrs ago.
