Members firehorseservices Posted July 14, 2015 Members Report Posted July 14, 2015 I am trying to figure out a good recipe for a finishing compound for heavy reins and such. Thanks in advance for any input. Quote
Members MudBugWill Posted July 14, 2015 Members Report Posted July 14, 2015 I use 50% tallow, 25% lard, and 25% beeswax. Then i toss in a scoop of lanolin. Its an awesome concoction. It really conditions and waterproofs the leather wonderfully. Massage it in real good and heat the surface of the leather with a hair dryer if you can. Quote
mlapaglia Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 Mine is similar to the above information but I use 50% Neetsfoot oil, 25% bees wax and 25% carnuba wax. Work it in and use a little heat then rub well. Quote
Members Redochre Posted July 26, 2015 Members Report Posted July 26, 2015 I'm currently experimenting with equal parts beeswax, parrafin wax, vegetable oil and beef tallow. So far it does a cracking job, even turns the cheap shite Tandy leather into something semi decent. Quote
