firehorseservices Report post Posted July 14, 2015 I am trying to figure out a good recipe for a finishing compound for heavy reins and such. Thanks in advance for any input.
MudBugWill Report post Posted July 14, 2015 I use 50% tallow, 25% lard, and 25% beeswax. Then i toss in a scoop of lanolin. Its an awesome concoction. It really conditions and waterproofs the leather wonderfully. Massage it in real good and heat the surface of the leather with a hair dryer if you can. mlapaglia Report post Posted July 15, 2015 Mine is similar to the above information but I use 50% Neetsfoot oil, 25% bees wax and 25% carnuba wax. Work it in and use a little heat then rub well.
Redochre Report post Posted July 26, 2015 I'm currently experimenting with equal parts beeswax, parrafin wax, vegetable oil and beef tallow. So far it does a cracking job, even turns the cheap shite Tandy leather into something semi decent.
