Members 25b Posted July 17, 2015 Members Report Posted July 17, 2015 Where does everyone buy their shell cordovan? I sent an email to the Tannery Row people, but they have not replied. Honestly, I'd rather find a retailer that has shells instead of trying to deal directly with Tannery Row and wait 4-5 years for it... Also would like to know if there are any good sources for Shinki Hikaku shell too. I also sent them an email (a friend fluent in Japanese, actually), but haven't heard back from them either. I tried reading other threads on here about shell sources, but all the ones mentioned do not sell it anymore. Thanks for any leads. I just have one left right now and would like to pick up a few more in the next couple of months. Preferably in some other colors than black or brown. Quote
Members Andrew Chee Posted July 17, 2015 Members Report Posted July 17, 2015 Charles Hardtke sells Shinki shells. Booth and co carries Claytons shell. I've tried those as well as Horween and I find that the Clayton's shells to be closest to the Horween shells. I actually think it's nicer than Horween. Try them. Andrew Quote
Members 25b Posted July 20, 2015 Author Members Report Posted July 20, 2015 Thanks for your reply...I've tried Clayton before and it is pretty nice...I cannot find a website for Hardtke, but I emailed two of the guys (I think they were the late Mr. Hardtke's sons)...they haven't replied back yet though...Thanks again... Members jk215 Posted July 22, 2015 Members Report Posted July 22, 2015 Had no idea Hardtke sold Shinki shell. The Hardtke website went down when they were moving locations not too long ago. I guess it never went back up. Hopefully they are still around! Quote
Members 25b Posted July 28, 2015 Author Members Report Posted July 28, 2015 Any other places to try? An old thread said Siegel carried cordovan, but they don't. Quote

Members Andrew Chee Posted July 29, 2015 Members Report Posted July 29, 2015 When I spoke with Hardtke, they told me that they don't like selling the Shinki shells just by themselves. They'd only sell it if you bought other stuff from them. Not sure why that was but that's what they said. going forward I'd probably just stick with Claytons shells or Horween when available since they were nicer than Shinki and Claytons is more readily available.
