Members DR80 Posted August 25, 2015 Members Report Posted August 25, 2015 I have seen some hand stitched watch straps that have straight stitching. How do i achieve that? with a lacing chisel instead of the diamond shaped? or with another stitching method? Quote
Members TVP Posted August 26, 2015 Members Report Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) Possibly with round prongs punch like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Leather-Stitching-detachable-Patented-design/dp/B00BZ9MMBU Stitching wheel or stencil and round awl. Edited August 26, 2015 by TVP Quote
Members DavidL Posted August 26, 2015 Members Report Posted August 26, 2015 You can do it with a regular stitching chisel/ pricking iron. I've done it before but can remember the exact way. I did cast the thread forward or I casted front and back to create a straight looking stitch. Quote
mlapaglia Posted August 26, 2015 Report Posted August 26, 2015 A round hole will cause a straight stitch. Using a stitching groove will also cause the stitch line to be straight. If you are using no more than 5oz thickness of leather this hand punch will make a great hole for straight stitches. https://www.tandyleather.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/3229-00.aspx Michael Quote
Members 25b Posted August 26, 2015 Members Report Posted August 26, 2015 That tandy punch is a piece of garbage...the one I had broke when punching very thin leather...like 1mm or less. The part punches the hole broke through the back side of the punch where it'd been brazed / soldered in. Worked fine for about a month or two of light use and then broke as described above. Buy one if you want, but don't say no one warned you they were junk when it breaks. Quote

(useless tools) Then i bought some tools from Goodsjapan and the quality seems to be really good. But i can't find round hole punches there. Edited August 26, 2015 by DR80 Quote
