Members Nandy Posted September 3, 2015 Members Report Posted September 3, 2015 I have 4 pieces of oiled tanned leather in the 2 oz size (1 full and 3 shoulders) plus a piece of tooling leather. I will not be using all that leather right away so I am trying to figure how to put them away. I had them laying on my sons bed but he is back from this vacation this weekend and I dont have anywhere else to put them opened up like that. I bought one of those clothes racks and was planning to put a few more horizontal beams and hung them there in my stepdaughers room since she is gone to college in 2 weeks. I think that is better than folding them like they had at the store. I have not been able to get that crease where it was folded to "iron out". I paid good money for those leathers and would like to keep them as safe as i can. Any ideas? Quote
mlapaglia Posted September 3, 2015 Report Posted September 3, 2015 Flat, hung, or rolled. You are right, folded is bad. I roll mine and store on a shelf. Been ok so far. Quote
Members zuludog Posted September 3, 2015 Members Report Posted September 3, 2015 I cleared off the top of a wardrobe and lay the leather flat on there. There is a certain amount of drooping over the edge, but nothing desperate A common way I have seen at suppliers is to tie the leather in a loose roll Whatever method you choose, be careful not to leave it in direct sunlight for a while as that will produce areas of bleaching or other colour changes. Easiest way to prevent this is to just cover it with an old sheet Quote
Members Handstitched Posted September 10, 2015 Members Report Posted September 10, 2015 G'day, The thin leathers I can roll up into smaller rolls, but obviously the thicker leathers are carefully rolled up 'loosely' to avoid any creasing and tied up with some thonging and stored under my workbench away from sunlight.
