DR80 Report post Posted September 11, 2015 How do i punch straight holes in skived leathers. (see my attached sketch) If i punch one part and then glue them together i can open the hole with an awl, but i'm not satisfied with the result when making the holes with my awl. (Nothing wrong with the awl, a new sharpened diamond awl from Craft Sha.) I want to use a stitching chisel, but wonder how, or if it's possible in this situation? Also, if you're going to glue all your layers together first and try it that way, yes, it will be hard to get them "perfect"...so get them as close as possible and then use either a VERY sharp knife to trim them all to be exactly flush or use a belt sander to do so..........IF you're going to do it that way (glue all layers together and then stitch).... So Glue all necessary pieces together beforehand, Now Drill all together while flat, Now Skive, Now Sew into already aligned holes.
