Members landm42006 Posted September 17, 2015 Members Report Posted September 17, 2015 ALCON, As the title states, what ideas or guidance do you have for a fledgling leather worker trying to imitate the look of croc or alligator on veg tan? I'm not looking for the raised / high ridged scales that a whole piece one can purchase from Tandy can get, I'm looking for that segmented look that the plates or scales make, almost (to me) looks like a dried lake bed. Are there any tricks using a bone folder, or is there a stamp that is out there that could be suggested? Thanks so much for any advice. Regards, Marty Quote
Members handsw Posted September 23, 2015 Members Report Posted September 23, 2015 The book Finesse figure carving by Al Stohlman is great for all animal textures and explains all the stamps required to do them. At page 132 you can find the section for reptiles and amphibians. Quote
Members DS STRAPS Posted September 23, 2015 Members Report Posted September 23, 2015 I would say either buy the alligator printed veg tan leather http://www.tandyleather.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/9151-11.aspx or print out what ever image you like of alligator scales and get to transferring it to leather http://previews.123rf.com/images/charnsitr/charnsitr1207/charnsitr120700014/14379481-dark-green-crocodile-skin-texture-as-a-wallpaper-Stock-Photo-texture.jpg Quote
