How Do I Add Logo To My Products

Recommended Posts

I make dog leashes, collars & harnesses. Up until now, I never used a logo because it was just something I did on the side. Since my business has grown substantially I would like to add a logo to my products, that way people remember where they got the product from. I work with some veg tan, that's no problem. I also work with a lot of leather that has been chrome tanned and biothane. The chrome tanned leather is too soft to hold a stamp and I really don't want to brand it due to fumes given off. Is there any alternative? There is laser etching, but the machines are way too expensive and I don't have anyone locally that does it? Is there something I can use like an ink or anything else?

As far as I know, heat embossing is the only way to imprint chrome tanned leather for it to last any length of time. Some people try to say they stamp it without heat and it lasts, but in my experience, that is not the case.

If you're worried about the fumes (?), do it outside...standing upwind...with a fan behind you...

I was thinking about making leather labels and sending them out to be laser etched and then use a contact cement to attach it to the product. Not really sure how contact glue holds to chrome tanned leather though

Ultimately, I would like to find small metal tags similar to these to rivet to my products. I've searches high and low and can't seem to find anything small enough.

I think they can make them to whatever size you need. Might be worth a phone call to them.

I have one of these: https://www.etsy.com/listing/98894284/custom-leather-stamp-with-heat-embosser?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=leather%20embossing&ref=sc_gallery_2&plkey=4c344643a56c8b4d59b6750738dd6b2ce4129524:98894284

I think they're a sponsor.

It has variable heat, so you can "brand" if you want to or just emboss. I can't say it's perfect, and it takes some work to get the right feel, but once you have a couple jigs made up and get the right heat/pressure/time down, it's permanent. The only issue is that you need an AI file of your logo.

Parott1,

I only work with chrome tanned leather. We laser engrave first and in some cases put an inlay in the logo.  it gets tricky with the specific type of leather that you are working with. we use Barge rubber cement for any of the glue applications. Red and yellow can is the strongest in my opinion.
