Adler 30-1 Question

Recommended Posts

I have seen patchers with one hand wheel to operate the machine. Why does this 30-1 have two?post-58007-0-81944000-1444229312_thumb.j

Normally, a shoepatcher has only one balance wheel and that usually can be mounted on either the end of the machine or in front. In this picture, this machine has an extra hand wheel which is probably from another machine. I personally would not mount the second wheel. The machine is designed to operate with only one hand wheel, be it on the front or side.

Looking closer at the picture, the hand wheel mounted on the front of the machine looks more like a Singer hand wheel. The one that is not attached is definitely an Adler hand wheel. The machine is also an Adler.

The seller says make a reasonable offer but gives no details if machine is operational and I haven't called yet. Assuming this machine is in good condition and operates as it should, what would be a reasonable offer? Is it practical to buy a machine this old to use? Thanks.

Stickandtin,

This is an old Adler 30-1 judging by the color, the rust, the hand wheel which does not have the newer release tab on it. the machine is going to need some work. I would low ball the seller. they can be rebuilt even with the prices for Adler parts. Email me with any more questions you may have. I would like to see other pics of the stand and machine.
