Going To Look At An Adler 30-10

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am a novice looking for my first machine. Interested in trying to make some shoes, don't want to hand sew the uppers. I am going to contact the seller about the machine in the photo. I will see how many stiches per inch it will sew, and understand the best answer is about 5, and to check the presser foot for play. I also read to make sure that the clutch allows the hand wheel use.

Couple of questions I would be grateful for your thoughts

  • Is there anything else I should check or look for on the machine?
  • I am a competent woodworker, assuming I build a table for it, is it a good machine for shoes and maybe bags?
  • Is 92 thread a possibility or should I stick to 69? I first thought that I'd get a harness sticher until I read here that you can't use light thread, but it would be nice to be able to use a fairly heavy thread like 92 on this.
  • The asking price is $900, any thoughts on this are appreciated as well.

Thank you for taking the time to read a rookies post.

Matt

$900 will be a good price if it's complete and works well. Plan to invest in a servo motor. I've never met a clutch motor I liked.

These machines are still made today in Germany today by a company called - are you ready? - "SL-Spezialnaehmaschinenbau Limbach GmbH & Co. KG"

Their website has some Adler 30-10 detailed specs, parts drawings etc.

Prepare to get a second mortgage on your house if you need to order anything from them.

People have lamented in the past that Adler patcher parts are almost ten times the price of their Singer equivalents.

A nice Adler 30-10 manual is available on manualslib.com

I'm not really an expert in these machines but I came close to driving halfway across the continent once to pick one up.

These are repair machines which is why they are called patchers.

For making shoes I would suggest the Singer 17/18, Seiko TE/TF, Pfaff 23/24 etc

Hi Matt

This is Gary D. When I looked at the machine it was missing the hook and bobbin case. I did buy there Durkopp 204-370 when I was there. The machines came

from the DB.

If you still have your saw mill I dug up an oak burrel that I would like to get sawed up.
