can any one tell me what type of leather is being used on antique writing desk tops please

i can't say for sure, but it's most likely a veg tan cow. perhaps it was burnished with something like a piece of glass to get it smooth and a bit harder.

when that desk was made. they had only veg tan leather - and most likely cow.

edit - now that i think about it, horse could have been used also. it's very smooth and has a firm hand to it.

THANK YOU I have a nice pc. of horse hide i've had for years its probly 2-3 oz. solf ,,smooth finish.. wasn't sure if not a furmmer type leather wouldn't of been a better chose. is going to be glued to a wooden board and then sell it
