solidrock Report post Posted January 19, 2016 I picked up a Ruger Redhawk Kodiak Backpacker right before Christmas and wanted to make a holster to carry it with. Because of the weight and size of the revolver I also needed to make a belt to support the holster. After looking through this forum I decided on a pancake style holster. Here is what I came up with. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. I had the most trouble with the boning and getting the pre punched front and back of the holster to line up when I glued them together. I think also I will make it a little shorter next time as there is about an inch of holster sticking past the muzzle.

sideforce Report post Posted January 19, 2016 Nice job! I just made a pancake holster for my Ruger Redhawk 45ACP/45Colt. My pattern making skills are not as refined, and while the holster will work, there are changes I have to make to the pattern. Mainly my leather fails to cover the entire trigger area. It looked good on paper, but failed when the pistol was inserted. Oh well, live and learn, keep on trying.
solidrock Report post Posted January 19, 2016 As soon as I finished it I wanted to start another one. In making the pattern, I pulled a string over the gun and measured it, adding that much to the pattern for the back. I added 2-1/2", I think 2" would have been better, it didn't fit quite as tight as I like. Next I want to get a couple of speed loaders and make a pouch for them. sideforce Report post Posted January 19, 2016 I'd learned from YouTube (is that a formal learning institution?) to measure the width of the pistol an divide by 2. That would establish your stitch line going out from the outline of the pistol. It worked for me. The holster was tight, but with wet forming the leather it fits well. I'll try and post up a picture later on of the results. Interested to see what you come up with for a speed loader pouch. Have to design and make something to hold the moon clips used with 45ACP for this pistol.
