What I've done lately

Well here are a couple holster that I have been working on lately. The first is for my new Sig 226R 40 cal. It's made from 7/8 oz from Zach White. I was happy with everything about this holster until I died it. I used USMC Black and it didn't cover worth a damn. It wears good though. I actually have another started on my bench for this with the addition of a band around the mouth, and I think I will oil with neatsfoot this time. I am tired of black.

The second is going to be a Christmas present for my brother. He bought a new Taurus Judge(.45/410) and there are not a lot of holsters out there. He asked me if I would make him one so this is what I have come up with. This is my first holster not for me. I still have some work to do. I am going to oil this one and I still have to cut the belt slots and burnish the edges, but for the most part I am happy with how it is turning out. It was kind of hard to set the stitch lines on this one, but I only had to do it twice. This one turned out tight also which I wanted since I wasn't using any other retention. It will be mostly for range wear, so I think he will be happy with it. Let me know what you all think. Sorry about the pics, they are off my phone.

They both look very good. If the reinforcing piece was a bit longer you could use the same sewing holes that are in the wing area, it would save some sewing and would help the added piece blend a little better with the holster. Nothing wrong with it just a suggestion, kind of like this one

Jordon- Thank you and yes I thought the same thing as soom as I looked at after stitching it on. Hopefully next time I will think of that befor attaching it. I don't think it actually needed the strap, but for some reason I put it on there.

Great holsters! Looks like they use a hidden loop sort of arrangement? Very neat!

On the dye, it may be worth a try to wipe down the surface leather to clean it before applying the dye. That should get any surface contaminants off that may be interfering with the dye.

Thanks Shorts. I'm trying. The Sig is a hidden loop, the one for the Judge I just haven't cut the belt slots yet. As far as wiping them down, I am going to before I oil the judge and see how it goes. I was going to use rubbing alcohol, is there something else I should try? Thanks again it means a lot.

Just a light go of isopropyl ought to do you just fine.

Nice looking holsters. I like the hidden belt slots on the Sig holster. I really like the holster you made for the Taurus Judge. I thinks it's tougher to build a revolver holster then a semi-auto pistol holster because you have to consider the thickness of the cylinder and the frame thickness when planning out your basic design and stitch lines. When I built my first prototype tunnel/loop holster for a subnose J frame, I found that covering the entire ciylinder caused me problems with reholstering. I dented up the throat band reinforcement/top of the holster with the bottom of the cylinder. For my final "go to market design", I cut the top of the holster down to just below the top of the cylinder and elimited the re-holstering problems. Just a thought if you experiance the same re-holstering issue.

Lastly, I'm not sure if you are going to dye the holster black, or leave it a natural color. If I leave a holster natural or dyed a light tan color, I like the looks of white thread. But, that's just my preferance. Keep up the good work
