Mike, I don't get how it works. Are you using it just to thin strings, like you would an Osborne 86? It would be great to see it in use, to get a better idea of how it works. And do you like it?

Mike,

Thanks for posting the pics. It looks good. I like mine in that style. After you get a couple more, you can join our

"old splitter junkie" club.

Amen to the club Bruce...

I'll join that club as I have 5, two electric and three hand splitters. I must think about culling one of them.

Tony.

Let me know what you are going to get rid of in a PM, Tony. Cheers, Ray

I'm always on the lookout. But the wife just might divorce me if I get anymore.

I plan on useing it to split rawhide strings down real thin. It seems my model 84 wants to cut real fine strings in two. So I figure to give this a whirl. I haven't used this type before but I think you set the depth by the two knobs on top. The roller part will swing back you then insert the strap and pull. I believe as you pull the roller applies downward pressure causing the strap to push the piece of thin metal down enough to allow the strap through at the desired thickness. Maybe someone will give a better description. It will probaly be afew days before I have a chance to mount it but I will post pics. when I do. You also need to cut a hole in whatever you mount it to so the split can fall away.

Sounds cool. I, too, am an old splitter junkie (I may have sniped a few from others among you on eBay <ggg>) - I have three very old Osborne 86's but have yet to mount them and use them. But if an old Osborne 86 is good enough for Mike Beaver, it's more than good enough for me! ;)
