Members Askal Posted February 22, 2016 Members Report Posted February 22, 2016 Hello, My favourite pairs of woolen socks are at odds with my calves and sag as the day wears on. There are sock garters available for purchase online but I always prefer to make things if possible, and the ones available are elastic band besides. This likely makes them more comfortable but of course I have a bias for leather I think it's worth a chance as well. Does anyone perhaps have old books that may show how they were made when then were commonly of leather or are more experienced and can make an educated guess for me to try? I mostly just make sheaths; this is rather out of my wheelhouse. I did search the forum and someone was making them for reenactors but the thread is from seven years ago. Perhaps someone knows reenactment gear makers I can ask? Thank you for any ideas and help you can provide. Quote
Members billybopp Posted February 23, 2016 Members Report Posted February 23, 2016 I made sock garters of leather for a friend not long ago. In order to get the clips, I bought cheap garters for about $5 and cut them off. I used a Tandy hatband and buckle set for the main calf-strap. For this set, he wanted to use the elastic between strap and clips, so I attached the elastic that was cut off the donors and simply sewed them in to a piece of leather that goes around the main strap. My friend loves them. Easy peasy! Bill Quote
