No 6 Harness Machine Replacement Bolts - Success!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, a while ago I posted on here asking if any kind people had some spare bolts/screws for the No 6 harness machine as am doing mine up and a few had sheared off. I (really my dad!) had managed to drill the old ones out without harming the thread but I couldn't find any replacements.

I had some sent from Australia which gave me one that I needed, then I went to see other companies who told me I would need to order 5000 (!!!) but they could be made.

Well, update is I found a very nice engineer in Cirencester who has made me some! They weren't cheap but I now have a properly working No 6 for the first time since I bought it! I didn't notice these sheared off bolts when I bought it and had I seen them I wouldn't have got it but you live and learn.

Anyway, I have a couple of extras so if anyone has need of the large hex head bolts that attach one of the plates to the side of the head or the slot head small bolts that position these plates before the main bolts secure them then do get in contact.

My friendly engineer told me in 30 odd years he had not seen a thread like it. He usually works on classic cars and was doing something to a Ferrari Testarossa the same week he did my bolts for me. I only needed two of the bolts copied but I am sure he would do others if people needed him to.

Well done! :)

Post some pictures and maybe the BUSMC parts number of the screws and the price you´re asking. Spares screws are always nice to have.

Here are some photos of the new bolts in the machine and out, as well as the part number diagram (with thanks to amuckart for the original copy :-) )

As I said, they weren't cheap! So I would need to ask £20 each (ex postage). The engineer didn't differentiate between sizes, he just charged me the same per bolt.

Not cheap but okay for obsolete and well reproduced parts. These bolts can make the difference between a not functional machine and a well working beautiful vintage heavy duty machine.

It has made my machine from scrap into operational so am very pleased!
