Members skarmartin Posted March 31, 2016 Members Report Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Hi all I've read a few ideas on the forum about workbenches. I am thinking of having two separate ones, one for cutting leather, one for stamping, carving. I have a piece of marble which I believe is good for cutting leather or stamping (I can't remember which). I have a singer 201 sewing machine I was thinking of buying two old dining tables to start, unless others have a cheap suggestion for a sturdy bench. I don't have the funds to buy pine benches at the moment. Kind Regards Scott Edited March 31, 2016 by skarmartin Quote
Members TLP Posted March 31, 2016 Members Report Posted March 31, 2016 Old metal goverment surplus desks work well for work benches, cover the top with a double layer of 3/4" cdx plywood {for rigidity}, with a pc of 1//4" tempered hardboard for a sacrificial cutting surface, when the hardboard gets torn up tear it off and replace with new. Cut leather on the hardboard surface, tool on the marble surface. Quote
Members TacticallySharp Posted March 31, 2016 Members Report Posted March 31, 2016 I used a piece of plywood with a wood frame between two old kitchen cabinets for my main work surface. Quote
