Korban Report post Posted May 1, 2016 Hello everyone, I've been working leather for little over a year now and I have yet to learn how to make a clip wallet. Should have an exterior pocket on both sides and at least two pockets on the insides for credit cards, business cards, etc.. Followed by the clip inside the interior for money. I have used the kit from Tandy but it appears to be too big. Thank you all for your time.
Halitech Report post Posted May 1, 2016 Are you referring to this kit? https://www.tandyleather.ca/en/product/money-clipper-kit It just depends on your definition of big. Considering the style pocket they use inside, the size is about right. If you wanted to cut the size down a bit, you could use the same size pocket on the inside as the one on the outside but you'd only save about 1/4" tops
Korban Report post Posted May 2, 2016 Yes, that is the wallet I recently made but it appears too big for me. Not only that, I prefer using Hermann Oak leather, and the leather provided by Tandy is not as durable or flexible for me when tooling floral patterns. Halitech Report post Posted May 2, 2016 that's the great thing, no one is forced to use just what tandy provides, you can design your own to fit the size you want

I just had a guy ask me to make him a minimalist wallet, with a money clip. That's something I've never made, so I'll be looking around in the forums and online in general for ideas. Then I'll likely make my own design and have at it. I may run into issues, and it may not come out perfect. but no doubt I'll learn a thing or 2, and the next one will be better. I'm good with that. Halitech Report post Posted May 3, 2016 I've done the same thing, look around, take parts of this job, parts of another job and come up with something all yours. it's all part of developing your own style

It's really cool to take some raw leather and an idea, and with some work and experimentation, end up with a nice item that you or someone else can enjoy using for years to come. I'm working on my first long wallet right now - my own pattern and no instructions - working through a couple issues I hadn't anticipated, and I know it won't be perfect, but it'll be ok, and I'll learn a few things and get more experience, so it's all good. Halitech Report post Posted May 3, 2016 that's how most of my projects get started, a hare brained idea and a side of leather sitting here lol The trick to it is to hide any mistakes so that only you know where they are and everyone thinks it's the cats meow when they are given it or they buy it
bob21804 Report post Posted May 3, 2016 I looked a bit last night and found SLC has a better selection and better pricing than Tandy too.
