Mujician Report post Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) I'm just starting to complete a wallet kit i bought, I'm now at the colouring stage. I have learned it is best practice to build up colour in layers one at a time. So, I've started with yellow all over. Next I want to add red to certain parts. What is it I need to do? Do I just add red on top of the yellow. I'm aware that red and yellow make orange when mixed, so do I just keep adding red on top until it appears red, or is there some other mystical skill I need to learn? Thanks Edited June 2, 2016 by Mujician
gigi Report post Posted June 2, 2016 A very useful book is 'Fiebing's Fantastic Finishes' by Tony & Kay Laier: exemplifies the steps for different types of leather dyes: alcohol, oil, or water based, resisted ('blocked') or not with Leather Sheen or Tan-Kote; also the use of Acrylics and Antique Finish. If I use water based dyes I dilute it with water until I obtain the desired shading, step by step working light to dark. It's best to test the steps on a test piece of leather first. Mujician Report post Posted June 2, 2016 Thanks this is kind of a test before i try to make a wallet from scratch. The red went over the yellow without any problems. Thanks
bikermutt07 Report post Posted June 2, 2016 Make sure and test your coloring on some scrap of the leather you are using for the wallet. That can save some frustration.
