SLC vs Weaver BELT CUT

Recommended Posts

From Herman Oak, has anyone done a comparison, I stopped by SLC while on a road trip and have not had time to call Weaver to see what there price is.  At SLC for what they call a belt cut it is 149.00 and no shipping cut from H/O leather as far as I know Weaver offers they same type of cut, that being their holster, belt cut, but not sure of the cost plus the shipping.  If there are many that see this and read it I hope a few can chime in with your own opinion and to which one is the beast or are they comparable.

Thanks

Well, I know I'm going to sound like the 'stuffy' old guy again ;)  I don't order either of these.

SLC has had theirs returned repeatedly (can't say I didn't give them enough chances) and the 2 sides I ordered from Weaver were so bad it was insulting and I don't intend to order there again.  Skip that "anybody can make a mistake", or "give em a chance to make it right" (which I did, when I sent them my money).  Truth is, I dont' want to do business with anyone who even has that in their "A" pile.  Maybe they honestly don't know the difference.  Or maybe they do, but they think I don't.  Either way...

Not to say that EVERY piece at those places is bad.  But I've seen enough that I no longer buy leather I haven't seen.

So, instead of just complaining, I offer a suggestion. If you don't have call to order 10 sides from H.O., get a couple guys in your area who could use 2 or 3 sides each and split an order.  It's $8 "A" grade instead of $12 "B" grade.

Jeff are you using W & C for your leather and do they offer a belt or holster cut when ordering from them like the other 2 do?  I have not ordered the belt cut yet from either and open to suggestions other than teaming up with others, it is not that I am against teaming up to order it's just there are many around me that can place an order of that nature including myself.

Thanks

Yeah, as a rule I do like W/C leather.  But these days, I want to see that prior to purchase too.  Some waste is expected, but ....

I don't know if they offer a "bend" like you were talking about, but they do sell backs, which is the bend with the single shoulder (or a side with the belly cut off, same thing).

I distributed a good bit of W/C leather recently for less than half what I paid for it.  It was NOT worth $10 per foot, I would NOT have paid that had I seen it ahead of time, and I will NOT sell it to someone else at that price.  So instead, I just 'took the hit' and mark it up to [yet another] lesson about buying leather.

But I will say that W/C has sent me some absolutely BEAUTIFUL leather in the past, and if I was in PA I'd likely be camped on their porch ;)
