Wireless Password

G'day and HELP. Mt wife gave me an Ipod for christmas, it recognizes our wireless modem, but alas I can't remember the password. Is there anywhere on my laptop (XP) were I set up the system were I can find the password I used, or is there anything I can do. Thanks in advance. Darryl

your modem should have an IP address...if you cant find that, google your modem maker and the makers site should have the IP address on their site. once you have that, type that number in the address bar of your browser and hit enter ...a new box should come up asking for a user and password..if you never changed this, it should be user=admin pw=admin or the maker site may have what the default settings are...after you get past this you should be able to see the settings for the modem/router...if it is similar to mine the password can be found under the security setting...if all else fails there should be a way to reset the modem back to the factory default and you will have to put all your settings in again. good luck

The usual IP address to put into your Browser address field is 192.168.1.1. That will bring up the Router Config window.

It will ask for the password. Roo is right...admin/admin is the standard, unless you changed it.

If you have a Linksys router then the router ip is usually 192.168.1.1, Netgears are usually 192.168.0.1

Both makes are usually use the username "admin" but use "admin", "password" or "pass" for the password, if one doesn't work try the others.

As someone else pointed out, the worst case scenario is a RESET of the router back to out-of-the-box specs.

Then you can start over with an easily remembered password.

One point, the password that the others were talking about is the Console password for access to the router configuration. You are looking for the SSID password that you set for security purposes. I doubt that you are going to be able to find a clear text sample of your password - if you could, so could the hackers :-p Your best bet is to use the Console password to get into the router configuration screen and change the SSID password. Of course, you'll have to add it to your wireless notebook computer as well.
