venator Report post Posted August 31, 2016 So I'm looking to do some guitar straps in a sunburst effect like on the guitars. However I'm having trouble figuring out the colours. They use a brown for the edge but the centre is something called "suncast amber" and it looks quite yellow but contains red. Obviously if I just add red to yellow I get orange. I'm thinking perhaps that I need to thin out a light brown and add a little tiny drop of red to it? Any thoughts? Thanks team. STU
pnj Report post Posted August 31, 2016 (edited) It's done with an airbrush. You can use various colors to get similar results but basically, you use a darker color (brown ish) on the outside and fade that out. When I do it, I just let the natural color of the leather be my lightest / inner most color. I use brown of some sort on the outside and sometimes hit the very very outside edge with black for a darker, higher contrast. If you want an amber or yellowish color in the middle, I'd hit it with full yellow first. Then do my sunburst with the browns/tans, etc on the outside.
