Guitar cover with zipper

Making a guitar and interested in comments on zippers, side or back, How far up the back? I assume a little past the waist of the guitar.

Also, ideas on leather thickness.  Does too thick, 8-9 oz?, interfere with pick motion? with 9-10, there's still 1/4" btween the strings and the leather.
