rdb Report post Posted January 1, 2009 I passed on this one. The owner hadn't set it up to sew, so I couldn't test it any more than run it. Looking on Googly, I found out a bit more about it. 5500SPM, self oiling, drop feed, reverse, and a knee lift. They run anywhere from $100 just for the head, to $400 with table, on average, to $800 reconditioned from a pro. The bare needle actually went through 5/6oz like butter, but the owner wouldn't deal at all. Me, being a somewhat ornery cuss, even if he had offered $25 off, I would have taken it with me, but he just struck me wrong. That being said, I figured on installing a servo on it, and some tweaking. It would have been fine for light leathers, even though it was only a drop feed. But I got thinking 300 + 150 + some sundries, and I was almost halfway to an Artisan or some such, set up new and right for my work. Sometimes it's better to just walk away. I think you did the right thing on passing this one, I went to look at mine, the one I don't use, it is a 487 walking foot, It looks just like the 463. This was my first Pfaff and really impressed me that it could sew so fast. After using it, that speed didn't impress me one bit - 5500 / 10 stitches per in /550 inches / 45 or so feet per min. Who needs that? I'd try to make that thing tick away and off it'd go like a rocket. I then bought a 1245, that is one nice machine and another one that stitches up on a post about 6-8 inches high. Happy now, I figure someday, someone may need to stitch some drapes about 12 feet tall, and they may enjoy that speed. LOL
Art Report post Posted January 2, 2009 Well, it is a high speed drop feed flatbed machine. It will do light leathers and about any fabric. Most of them I have seen will do about 10 inches in 3 seconds, 5000 spm is not an uncommon setup for one. A Pfaff 545 is what you really want or a 535 or a 1245.
