Head knife- lady's hand

Recommended Posts

Hello

I'm having a hard time finding a head knife

I'm 2 years into making leather goods and I now want to treat myself to a good head knife.

I'm a lady and therefore have smaller hands than many of you gentlemen does, but many of the knifes in the stores looks to big...

I don't mind that the knife is not brand new, but I would love it to be a nice quality

Any suggestions?

Kind ragards

Sarah

Terry makes an excellent knife. You may have to wait, but is worth it. I own his French model and love it. He makes a petite version that isn't listed on his site. He can actually make whatever you want and his prices are very reasonable.

Super nice gentleman and I can't say enough good things about him. If you call him he will be very informative and helpful.

I have average size palms but stubby fingers, and struggle to use most round knife handles, or I do until I take 3/4" off the length with a saw, then reprofile the handle with a rasp.

That is exactly what I did with my knife.    I have a lovely old Dixon round knife, and tried to make do with the original handle in my little mitts.    Love the knife, but once I finally committed myself to cutting down that lovely old handle (it felt a real sin), it's so much easier to use now.

I will second Bikermutt 07 on Knipsknives have a Texas Rosebud model handle not over big at all.

Fantastic tool i have lots of old Dixon tools,Osborne tools including a newer Osborne round knife

replacement of a old damage Osborne Knife which they replaced free of charge fantastic costumer service

but sorry to say new Knife not as good as old knife could not hold a sharpe edge.

Which is why i which i charmed my wife to get me a Knipknife the difference was night and day.

Terry was really busy at the time but was super to deal with.

Hope this helps

I emailed Terry, and I'm confident he will have a knife that is exactly what I'm looking for.... I see it as an investment in my future, because right now his knife is way better than me :)

You won't be disappointed. I too have big hands and short stubby fingers. Gloves are a nightmare for me. That French model fits perfect in my hand though.

My only complaint at all (and it's not really a complaint) is that it will dig into my cutting surface a little. Man, that thing is sharp.

Champagne problems.

Yeah he is great. I think I remember him saying if I didn't feel like it was perfect (for some forgotten time period) I could feel free to return it.

I emailed him after a week and said "they'll pry it out of my cold dead hands".
