Members tlowry Posted June 1, 2007 Members Report Posted June 1, 2007 Does anyone know of any companies that make trees for youth saddles. I'm not familiar with the sizes but it would be for a kid, say 3-6 years of age. I do other types of leatherwork but havenever tried a saddle. Our first grandbaby was born a few months ago and I would like to start collecting the materials to build his first saddle. thanks, tlowry Quote
Members karl Posted June 6, 2007 Members Report Posted June 6, 2007 tlowry, There is a place you can buy saddle trees for youth saddles, and the company's name is Ralide. I bought a miniature saddle tree and a youth saddle tree and I am attempting to make my first saddle also. It's a mini saddle tree and is 11inches in total length and the seat measurement is 7 1/2 inches and thats the one I am starting on. Karl Quote
Moderator Johanna Posted June 6, 2007 Moderator Report Posted June 6, 2007 Ralide makes one-piece polyethylene saddle trees in Tennessee. They claim on their site that more than half the trees and stirrups made in the USA are done on their products. Link for small trees. Johanna Quote
Rod and Denise Nikkel Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 If you are looking for a wood and rawhide tree, there is one (a Youth Bowman Roper) listed in the Hadlock and Fox catalogue. It says it has seat sizes 13, 13 1/2 and 14". But I think that any of the tree companies (Hadlock and Fox, Bowden Brand, Timberline, etc.) would make youth trees of many kinds and sizes. Just phone them and ask. And of course, any of the hand makers could make you one, for a price! Quote
Members tlowry Posted June 6, 2007 Author Members Report Posted June 6, 2007 (edited) Thanks everyone, that is just what I was looking for. Didn't realize the trees were so reasonably priced. I'm sure the rest of the components won't be. This will be the first attempt at a saddle. I'll have to break out the 3 volumes of Saddlemaking and start from there. the last vol. I just just purchased from wildrose on this forum, which was my first post. Thanks again and keep up the good work on an excellent forum. Edited June 6, 2007 by tlowry Quote

I forgot to mention that Ralide has a $50.00 minimum order purchase, thats why I bought an additional pony saddle tree and stirrups. Karl Edited June 7, 2007 by karl Quote
