Anyone with experience with Renias solvent based glues.

Recommended Posts

I use the water based Renia Aquilim 315 and Aquilim SG, and i'm happy with those two. But in some situations i need a solvent based glue, one example is if i line something without glue (Like this card case i did a while ago, and i used Colle de Cologne to glue the lining.) But i have a hard time to decide a solvent based glue. I have most of Renias glues (Suitable for this type of work) , and i have tried them on veg tan and chrome tanned leather, and i think they behave very similar. But i wan't the most versatile glue, i guess some of those solvent based glues are better on oily leather and so on. I would appreciate some help to choose one of those. I would prefer to have two glue pots. One with water based (Aquilim 315) and one with a solvent based glue. And aquilim SG i can use directly from the can, since it's easy to rinse the brush in water afterwards. (I use SG for paddings on watch straps, and i guess it would be a good choice for zippers in the future, since it has an instant bond, but it's a temporary bond. It bonds to almost everything, flesh to grain, i even glue paddings to my granite plate så i can shape it easier.

Very nice card case!

I've used Renia Top Fit and seems to me a very good/versatile glue. I haven't tried this one yet: Renia rubber adhesive (Renia Gummilösung "Extra")

Thank you,

Have you tried Top Fit on oily waxy leathers?

I did a test with Aquilim 315, i glued two pieces of leather together and after drying i put them in water for 15 minutes. Believe it or not the bond is as strong as before :)

No, but I've tried BISON KIT 250ml: contact adhesive, universal, super strong; the one that specifies also 'leather' at 'Applications'. Is available at Hornbach stores.

Thank you: I will test this one also.

I asked Renia. And it seems like either Top Fit or Colle De Cologne is the most versatile for me (veg tan, chrome tanned, exotics and maybe some waxy/oily.

Top Fit is not/less "stringy" Colle is a little better on waxy/oily leather.

Top fit also works on wet leather without letting it dry.  (For example when/if you mold)
