terryHHI Report post Posted January 2, 2018 Hi, My name is Terry and I'm from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I started my leatherworking hobby about 18 months ago. This site was one of the first sites I discovered when I started and it has been my go to place to learn about techniques, tools, leather, etc. Thank you to all who have contributed. I thought it was time for me to start paying back the community in some small way, so here I go. I like to make primarily handbags, duffle bags, and backpacks. I like making my own patterns. I'm starting to use Affinity Designer (similar to Illustrator) to design some of the none square pieces. Gussets have given me grief, so I created a spreadsheet to help me calculate corners, gussets, etc. The process of doing the math helped me better understand why my gussets where always long. I sew most everything by hand. One of my 2018 goals is to become proficient with my Techsew 2700 sewing machine. Right now the sewing machine is winning the battle. Below are a couple examples of items I've made. Again, thanks for getting me started. Terry
bikermutt07 Report post Posted January 3, 2018 Great job and welcome aboard. That stuff is way nicer than what I make.
terryHHI Report post Posted January 3, 2018 Thanks bikermutt. I didn’t post the ugly, poorly stitched, stuff living a lonely life on my garage floor. I liked your Horween wallet. Horween leather is still on my to do list.
bikermutt07 Report post Posted January 3, 2018 You can get the butt strips from Maverick leather for about 18-20 dollars. They are 6 bucks a foot and come in at about 3 square feet. When I first ordered them I bought from Springfield leather. They were a little more expensive and just a tad not as nice as the ones from Maverick. I still want to try some of the blue color.
