Buff the leather really, really well, then apply a top finish like Super Sheene or Resolene.

What are you making?

I'm a firm believer in dry time. I usually let a dyed item dry for about 24hrs before I mess with it. Then like Sheilajeanne said buff it with a soft cloth or sheeps wool pads until it quits coming off, and then use top coat of choice.
