Not just leather machine needed

Recommended Posts

Greetings all! Thank you for the opportunity to join! I've seen this site often in my ventures and have gleaned abit of fantastic information.

I'm quite tired of fighting my machine (singer 4423? Something like that), I got it second hand and she's tired.

I'm working with waxed canvas, and will be adding leather to the mix. At the moment I'm using 10.10oz waxed canvas(company spec) 3 to 8 layers, so I've been using the machine until I hit corners and the I hand sew the thick spots...not fun. Will be adding 2-3 oz for binding and and prob 7-8oz at strap connections.

I've read alot and I am quite lost, the only thing I think I know is I need a triple feed, or compound foot?

So..long winded..I'd like some advice on what you all think would be the best budget machine. Was looking at financing a techsew....but see consew, tuffsew, juli mentioned often...brand doesn't matter...solid machine with readily available parts does though.

Thank you for reading and for any advice/suggestions.

Have a great night.

Buy any upholstery grade triple feed walking foot machine. They can all handle up to #138 bonded nylon/polyester thread, with a #22 or #23 needle, and sew up to or almost up to 3/8 inch. Then, with a smaller needle and thinner thread, they can sew two seams of standard weight seat vinyl.
