MikeC5 Report post Posted January 18, 2019 I've watched some videos and done some reading on making a double welt (to cover upholstery staples). I think I can do this with the correct feet for my 111W155 machine but I can't seem to find any definitions on double welt dimensioning. For example, if I get 8/32 foam double welt does this mean the diameter of each cord is 8/32 or is it the overall width of the two cords side by side? For the double welt sewing feet, same thing, is the dimension listed the overall width of the double welt it will sew? Also, when buying a double welt foot set should I stick with Singer or any other particular brand? I don't plan on using it a whole lot but want it to work. Wizcrafts Report post Posted January 18, 2019 The welt size on the foot equals the diameter of the covered cord. If your cord is 3/16" and the covering material is 1/16", the combined diameter is 1/4". That's the size of welt foot you need for that combo. Most double welt feet are 1/4", but others are available. Singer 111 feet refers to a style compatible with a Singer 111w155. Since Singer has been out of the industrial sewing machine business for a long long time, the only actual Singer feet for sale will be used, or new old stock. Good luck finding authentic Singer feet. If you hunt long enough, some will show up. otherwise, buy what's available in the market. Ask local upholstery shops if they have an extra set of "Singer" double welt feet. I scored mine with a machine I bought from an upholstery shop. It was in the drawer.
MikeC5 Report post Posted January 19, 2019 Thanks Wiz. I've read that there are some machines that are essentially a copy of the 111. Can I reasonably expect that a welt foot from one of these will do the job?

That class of machines uses the same diameter bars for the inside and back feet and have the same mounting system (slotted rear and narrow round front bars). Note, most, if not all Pfaff and Adler walking foot machines use different foot mounting systems and will not be compatible with Singer style machines.
