a sheath from a seatmaker

Recommended Posts

Elsewhere on the board, I described how I started doing motorcycle seats. My son decided that I should be able to make him a seat after he saw some of the sheaths I'd made for the knives I like to build. I no longer have time to make knives or sheaths; but I thought someone might like to see one of them. The sheath has no belt loop because it is a display sheath....not intended for carrying.

Oh yes, The knife is about 10 years old, the sheath about 2+ years old.

Very nice! I really like the way you laced it up. How do you do that?

The sheath is just folded on itself and then single loop laced together.

Very nice. I cant tell if you did or not but i would suggest you always put a welt in the seam so drawing the knife in and out doesnt cut threads or in your case the braid. Another thing, never store a carbon blade in a leather sheath, for that matter even stainless steel can rust. The moisture in the leather alone is enough to surface rust a blade. I provide a padded zipper case along with sheath for the knives i sell just so a person has place for storage.

Good advice Romey, there is indeed a welt in the seam to prevent the blade from cutting the lace.
