Sourcing or making "Woven" leather for shoes / boots?

Hi,

 

I have some boots that have this pattern to them, seems to be woven. Is there a general method to doing this and it's just time consuming or is it typically bought "pre-woven"?

Here is an example with other shoes:

I really like the pattern personally.
