Rewinding a 1-lb Spool of Thread

Somehow in shipping the bottom (near the base) of the 1-lb spool of thread loosened enough so that when used, every time the thread unwinds and gets near the bottom, it "tangles" and binds and I have to unwind 3 or four times by hand to unravel it. . . really frustrating. . .is there a better answer to solving this, or is rewinding the entire spool the only answer? If answer is to rewind, how do you do that? (I already have a piece of ladies' panty hose on the spool to keep it from unraveling to quickly, this prob is with a spool where the original winding has been damaged slightly at the bottom.) I've never tried it with a pounder, but here's something from my fishing line spools:

Take a piece of elastic band and size it to fit the spool snugly but not tight. Add a snap, then add an eyelet. Thread the eyelet with the running end of the thread, then snap the band in place around the spool.

I doubt this will work with a conical spool, but hey, it only costs about a buck two ninety five to make and try.

I have punched a hole (3 mm) in the foot of the spool, put the thread down through the center of the spool and then out through the hole, which keeps the thread to unwind upwards. You try it, it might solve your problem, a one minute job.

Have a look at the spool on the right.

I have punched a hole (3 mm) in the foot of the spool, put the thread down through the center of the spool and then out through the hole, which keeps the thread to unwind upwards. You try it, it might solve your problem, a one minute job.
