bolo tie sliding knot

Recommended Posts

OK guys--I have made a couple of bolo ties from kangaroo, but my main knot always seems a little less than desireable. What do you guys use as a foundation under the knot???

Hey CharlieR, I assume you are meaning the sliding knot? If so you can either tie it over a leather collar OR tie it directly onto the bolo by taking a matchbook cover or similar piece of card board and making a small collar then braid over that fairly tight. Once you are done remove the cardboard collar and the knot will be able to slide then. That is how I usually do it. Hope this helps.

Alan--yep, I was talking about the sliding knot. I have tried tying a smaller knot for a foundation, but that didn't work to weel for me. I have also tride the leather collar with a little more success, so thought I would ask around about what some of the pros us. I'll give the matchbook cover a try and see how it works for me. I am still trying to tie the knots and keep them straight and good looking. One of these days would like to give rawhide a try. Thanks again.

For my sliders I like to use a 4 bight turk in rawhide. It holds it shape and remains tight allowing me to use Roo or more rawhide as a cover. I have tried Roo as a base but like the rawhide better.

Hope that helps,

Opagon
